Creating a Parent Observer account in Canvas allows you to easily monitor your student’s progress, view grades, and stay connected to everything they’re working on. The setup process is quick and only takes a few minutes. Below is a simple, step-by-step guide to help you create your Parent Observer account.

Step 1: Get the Pairing Code From Your Student’s Canvas Account

  1. Have your student log in to their Canvas dashboard.

  2. In the left menu, click the Account icon.

  3. Select Settings.

  4. On the right-hand side of the page, click Pair with Observer.

  5. A unique pairing code will appear — copy this code.

    • This code connects your Canvas account to your student’s account.

    • Each student will have their own pairing code.

Step 2: Create Your Parent Observer Account

  1. Go to the main Canvas login page (the one your student uses).

  2. Click Create an Account.

  3. Choose Parent.

  4. Enter your name, email, and create a password.

  5. Paste the pairing code you copied.

  6. Click Start Participating to complete your account setup.

You will now have full observer access and can monitor your student’s progress across all enrolled courses.

Step 3: Add Additional Students (If Needed)
