At Smarter by 1 Degree (SB1D), we believe every student deserves the opportunity to succeed no matter their learning style, pace, or personal needs.
From the very first course through graduation, our program is designed with built-in accommodations that support all learners, without the need for special requests.
If your student requires additional accommodations beyond what’s built in, please review the process below.
Requesting Additional Accommodations
If your student needs a specific accommodation that is not already included in our built-in supports, please contact our support team by submitting a ticket into the helpdesk.
To ensure your request can be considered, please include medical documentation or an evaluation report from your student’s physician or school.
Our team will review your request and coordinate with the appropriate departments to provide reasonable accommodations wherever possible.
SB1D Built-In Accommodations
Every student enrolled in Smarter by 1 Degree benefits from the following supports automatically no paperwork or approval required. These features are woven into our program design to make learning accessible, flexible, and effective for all.
Self-Paced Classes
Students complete courses without deadlines or due dates.
They can move as quickly or as slowly as they need to master the material before advancing.
Micro-Learning
Lessons are short and focused, averaging 10 minutes each with a quick quiz to reinforce learning.
This format supports focus and retention, making it especially effective for students with ADHD or executive functioning challenges.
Visual & Auditory Learning
Our courses engage both visual and auditory learners through video-based lessons, maps, graphics, and narration.
This dual-sensory approach increases engagement, comprehension, and retention.
Mastery-Based Learning
Students learn in a low-pressure environment where they can retake lessons until they demonstrate mastery.
This builds confidence, improves grades, and encourages long-term understanding — not memorization.
Frequent Breaks
Students are free to take scheduled or as-needed breaks during lessons and studying to manage attention, fatigue, or anxiety.
Accessible Learning
Students can learn anytime, anywhere on a computer, tablet, or phone from home or while traveling.
Testing & Assignment Accommodations
In addition to the built-in learning supports, SB1D also offers flexibility during exams and assignments:
Handwritten Notes — Allowed during final exams (typed notes permitted only for students with dysgraphia).
Quiet Test Setting — Students may complete exams in a quiet space free from distractions.
Calculators & Math Tools — Calculators, multiplication charts, and formula sheets are permitted during math exams.
Untimed Written Assignments — Students can take as much time as needed to complete essays or written responses.
Concise Written Assignments — Students demonstrate mastery through short, focused writing instead of long, traditional papers.
Final Draft Checklist — A built-in checklist helps students ensure their written work is polished and ready before submission.
Proofreading Tools — Use of digital spelling and grammar tools is encouraged to support editing and revision skills.
Our Commitment
SB1D’s goal is to make education accessible, flexible, and empowering for every learner.
We meet students where they are and equip them with tools that build independence, confidence, and success both in high school and beyond.
