How to Track Completed Courses

Created by Smarter by 1 Degree, Modified on Fri, 12 Dec, 2025 at 2:06 PM by Smarter by 1 Degree

Once you’ve taken your final exam and earned your college credit, it’s time to mark that course as complete on your Student Degree Plan. Updating your plan helps you track your progress, see how many credits you’ve earned, and stay motivated as you move forward. Follow these simple steps to record your completion.

Step 1: Open Your Student Degree Plan

Start by opening your Student Degree Plan. Find the course you’ve just completed, the one for which you’ve received your final exam score.

Step 2: Move Credits from “Need” to “Done”

In your Degree Plan, you’ll see two columns for credits:

  • Need → shows how many credits you still need for the course.

  • Done → shows how many credits you’ve completed.

To mark your course complete:

  1. Erase the number (usually 3) from the Need column.

  2. Tab or move over to the Done column.

  3. Enter 3 (or the number of credits earned).

  4. Press Tab again to save the change.

Once updated, that row will automatically highlight, showing that the course is complete and the credits have been earned.

Step 3: Check Your Total Credits

Scroll to the bottom of your Degree Plan to see your credit totals. You’ll notice the totals adjust automatically:

  • Your Total Earned Credits will increase

  • Your Credits Needed will decrease

For example:

If your degree requires 120 credits and you’ve just completed your first 3-credit class, it will now show:
3 Completed / 117 Remaining

Step 4: Update Your Schedule Tab

Next, click over to your Schedule tab in the Degree Plan. Find the class you just finished and strike it through to show it’s done. This helps you keep a clear record of what you’ve completed versus what’s still in progress.

Step 5: Record Your Grade on the High School Plan

If you’re earning both high school and college credit for this course, open your High School Plan tab next. Find the same course and record your final grade (for example, A, B, etc.) in the grade column. This ensures your grade is documented for your high school transcript and keeps all of your records in one place.

Why It Matters

Marking your courses as complete is more than just bookkeeping — it’s progress you can see!
Each time you update your plan:

  • You’ll see your credit totals grow

  • You’ll stay organized across high school and college records

  • You’ll be able to celebrate each milestone along the way
